Do Jackapoos Bark A Lot?

A Jackapoo is a mix between a Jack Russell and a Poodle, and this loving and affectionate little creature inherited a lot of qualities from the Jack Russell breed.

We all know that Jack Russells can bark a lot sometimes, and this has many people asking whether or not a Jackapoo barks a lot. If so, why do they bark a lot, and what can be done to stop this type of behavior?

Let’s have a look.

Do Jackapoos Bark A Lot?

Yes, Jackapoos bark a lot and they do this because of their protective nature which they inherited from the Jack Russell breed. They are loyal and very protective of their owners, and if they sense any kind of danger, they will start to bark. In addition to this, they can also bark a lot when they are anxious, bored, or not getting the mental stimulation that they need.

Why Jackapoos Bark A Lot

Now that we’ve established that Jackapoos can bark a lot, let’s have a look at why they do this.

1.) They Have Separation Anxiety

Just as with Jack Russells, Jackapoos suffer from separation anxiety. They really don’t like to be left alone for long periods at a time, and when they are left to their own devices, they can get anxious and start to bark.

2.) Not Getting Enough Exercise

Jackapoos need regular exercise, just as Jack Russells do. If they don’t get at least 60 minutes of exercise per day, they will get bored and this can make them bark. They also don’t do well with living in an apartment, and they need proper space to run around and play.

3.) Not Getting Enough Attention

This ties in with my previous point. In addition to regular exercise, Jackapoos need attention and mental stimulation and if they don’t get it, they will display unwanted behavior such as excessive barking.

4.) They Have A High Prey Drive

Jackapoos are known to have a high prey drive and they love chasing small animals. If there are small animals in your home or yard, then this can cause your Jackapoo to bark a lot.

5.)  They Are Very Protective

As mentioned previously, Jackapoos are very protective of their owners and if they sense any danger they will start to act. This often results in excessive barking. While this might not be a desirable quality to some, it does make them excellent guard dogs.

How To Stop A Jackapoo From Barking A Lot

If your Jackapoo is barking a lot, then there are a few things that you can try to stop this unwanted behavior. Let’s have a look.

1.) Give Him Enough Exercise

Jackapoos have a lot of pent-up energy, and they need to get rid of it somehow. Daily exercise gets rid of all this energy, and it also prevents them from getting bored or frustrated which can lead to excessive barking.

2.) Don’t Leave Him Alone For Long

Don’t leave your pup alone for too long at a time. He can get bored or anxious, and this can cause him to start barking a lot. If you have to be away for a few hours, make sure that there is someone to check in on him.

3.) Give Him Enough Attention

Jackapoos love to play and run around, especially with their favorite human. Make some time during the day to play with your furry friend, or teach him some tricks. This will keep him from getting bored and barking.

4.) Make Sure He Has A Desirable Living Environment

As mentioned earlier, Jackapoos do not make good apartment dogs. They need space to run around and play, so make sure that your pup has a lot of space to have fun, or take him for a daily walk if you don’t have a big yard.

Conclusion

While Jackapoos have some of the best qualities of a Jack Russell, they also have some of the less desirable qualities. These include separation anxiety and high energy.

When these fur babies are left alone for too long then they get anxious or bored, and this can cause them to bark a lot. In addition to this, if they don’t get regular exercise or mental stimulation then they will start to act out by barking excessively.

Make sure that your Jackapoo gets regular exercise, playtime with his favorite human, and a friend who checks in on him when he is alone.
